Cedarburg, WI – Residents across southeast Wisconsin are facing widespread river flooding after weekend storms dumped 8 to 14 inches of rain, pushing multiple waterways beyond their banks. The Milwaukee River at Cedarburg reached 12.1 feet early Monday and is expected to crest at 12.3 feet before slowly receding below flood stage by Wednesday morning. Backyards in Thiensville, portions of Thiensville Village Park, and several rural roads remain under water.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the Root River at Franklin is also in moderate flood, holding near 10.7 feet Monday morning. Sections of Oakwood Road are closed, with water covering parts of 27th Street and Nicholson Road. The Fox River in Waukesha is on track to crest at 8.8 feet this evening, flooding Frame Park, Bank Street, and parts of downtown.

Motorists are urged not to bypass barricades, as most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. Authorities caution that nighttime travel is especially risky when high water is harder to detect. River levels are expected to remain elevated into midweek, and additional advisories may be issued.
