Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding across eastern Iowa and western Illinois from midday Saturday through early Sunday morning. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour are possible, raising the risk of rapid flooding in low-lying areas and along creeks and rivers.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Level 3 of 4 flash flood risk covers much of eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Davenport, while a Level 2 risk extends east into Illinois. Flood Watches remain in effect for most of the region through Monday afternoon.

The Storm Prediction Center has also issued a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms, with damaging winds the main concern and hail also possible. The window for the strongest storms is from around noon Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive overnight weather warnings.

Storms may redevelop Sunday, keeping flooding concerns high. Additional advisories could be issued as conditions evolve.
