Cedar Lake, Indiana – Cedar Lake firefighters responded to 416 calls in 2026, marking a 24% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Cedar Lake Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 5141, the department handled 183 calls in February alone, averaging nearly seven responses per day.

EMS incidents accounted for 157 calls in February. Fire-related incidents totaled 19, while crews responded to four traffic accidents and three structure fires, including mutual aid responses.

Officials said the February call volume represents a 13% increase compared to February 2025.

With daily staffing of four to six personnel, the department reported it can deploy either two advanced life support ambulances or one ambulance and one engine depending on demand.

In addition to emergency responses, the department announced several February milestones, including the graduation of a member from the FHCP Paramedic Program and the swearing-in of a new firefighter. Officials also welcomed Engine 121, which has arrived but is not yet in service.

Crews provided standby coverage during the Moto On Ice Races and announced upcoming community events, including a car seat safety event on Friday, March 6, and first aid training with Cub Scout Pack 129 on Wednesday, March 25.

The increase in EMS activity may be particularly relevant to commuters and families relying on emergency medical response times.
