Elkton, MD – A months-long drug trafficking investigation in Cecil County led to the arrest of a 17-year-old who was allegedly found with more than 250 grams of fentanyl, according to Maryland State Police on Wednesday.
According to Maryland State Police, the Strategic Operations Group-North identified the Elkton teen as a suspected source of supply during an October–November investigation focused on fentanyl distribution across Cecil County. Troopers said they developed probable cause to obtain search and seizure warrants for the juvenile’s residence and a gray 2019 Honda Civic reportedly used in the operation.
Shortly before 4:20 p.m. on Friday, November 21, troopers said they observed the teen leaving his Elkton home and getting into the vehicle. He was detained, and investigators allegedly found 16 bundles of fentanyl in his possession. Members of the Elkton Police Department’s Street Level Crimes Unit assisted in executing warrants on the vehicle and the residence.
According to police, the subsequent searches uncovered another 56 fentanyl bundles — all packaged in blue wax paper bags stamped “UHAUL,” each wrapped inside clear zip-lock bags and rubber-banded together. In total, investigators recovered 257.7 grams of fentanyl.
The teen was transported to the Maryland State Police North East Barrack and charged with felony drug offenses as a juvenile. He was later released to his mother. The Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case.
State officials said the investigation was supported by the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network, with grant assistance from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
