Oneonta, New York – Snow and a light glaze of ice will continue to create slippery roads across parts of central and eastern New York through 1 a.m. EST Saturday, impacting the Friday evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Southern Oneida, Otsego, Delaware, and Sullivan counties. Additional snowfall up to 1 inch is expected, along with ice accumulations around a light glaze as mixed precipitation moves through.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset.

Interstate 88 near Oneonta, Route 17 in Sullivan County, and local roads in Utica, Delhi, Walton, and Monticello could become slick as temperatures hover near freezing. Even a thin glaze of ice can create hazardous travel, especially on bridges and untreated secondary roads.

Drivers should slow down now and allow extra stopping distance. Motorists can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.

Precipitation is expected to taper off before 1 a.m., but lingering moisture may refreeze overnight. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. EST Saturday.
