Albany, NY – A strong cold front sweeping across eastern New York today is ushering in the coldest air of the season, prompting frost and freeze alerts for much of the region tonight through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Frost Advisory is in effect for the Catskills and Mohawk Valley, where overnight lows are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s. Untreated vegetation and sensitive crops could be damaged by the cold.

By Thursday night, temperatures are forecast to drop even further, with widespread lows in the 20s and low 30s likely. A Freeze Watch has been issued for the broader Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and surrounding counties, as conditions could cause a hard freeze in many rural areas.

Residents are urged to cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and prepare outdoor plumbing for potential freezing conditions. The cold stretch will linger into the weekend before a gradual warm-up early next week.
