Chicago, IL – A recent study from Frontiers in Veterinary Science revealed significant factors influencing undesirable scratching behavior in domestic cats. Researchers identified the presence of children, play duration, and nocturnal activity as key contributors to increased scratching.
According to the study, disruptive and aggressive cats showed higher levels of scratching. Cats’ playfulness and active play sessions were also linked to more frequent scratching incidents. Additionally, placing scratching posts in areas frequented by the cat effectively redirected this behavior.
The study underscores the complexity of scratching behavior, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to address both the physical and social needs of cats.
