Cass County, MO – Deputies in Cass County, Missouri, say a felony-level retail theft turned into a short highway pursuit Saturday afternoon after suspects allegedly fled a Belton store.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 3:30 p.m. on November 1 when deputies were alerted to a theft in progress at a retail store on 510 Markey Parkway in Belton. Officials said a felony amount of merchandise had been taken.
Deputies, working with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, soon spotted a vehicle matching the suspect description traveling north on Interstate 49 near 155th Street. The driver initially pulled over but then accelerated back onto the highway before coming to a full stop.
To prevent a pursuit, a deputy deployed a grappler bumper device—successfully disabling the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger allegedly remained non-compliant for about five minutes before being taken into custody.
The suspects were transported to the Belton Jail, and charges are expected to be filed by the Belton Police Department, officials confirmed.
This incident remains under investigation.
