Cass County, MO – A Belton man was arrested early Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit along I-49 that began over a defective taillight, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the incident started around 2:20 a.m. on November 18 when a deputy attempted to stop a northbound vehicle in rural Peculiar. The driver allegedly accelerated as emergency lights were activated, sparking a pursuit north through Cass County.
According to officials, the Belton Missouri Police Department assisted by deploying tire deflation devices near North Cass Parkway. The vehicle continued north until becoming inoperable near Red Bridge Road in Kansas City. The driver complied with deputies at that point and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities identified the suspect as 59-year-old Rodney Camp of Belton. Camp has been charged with Driving While Revoked or Suspended (E felony) and Aggravated Fleeing a Stop (D felony).
He is currently being held in the Cass County Jail on a $35,000 cash-only bond, officials said.
