Cass County, Indiana – A three-vehicle crash on US 35 Tuesday evening injured two people and partially blocked traffic near County Road 1100 South.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a report of a crash with entrapment at approximately 6:34 p.m. Tuesday, February 3. Deputies responded alongside the Logansport Police Department, Galveston Fire Department, and Cass County Emergency Medical Services.
An initial scene assessment found that three vehicles were involved, with portions of US 35 blocked during the emergency response.
A preliminary investigation by Deputy Michael Thomison determined that a 50-year-old Galveston woman was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on US 35 and had stopped at County Road 1100 South to make a westbound turn. The Jeep was rear-ended by a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by a 45-year-old Royal Center woman.
Investigators said the impact pushed the Jeep into a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 54-year-old Converse man.
The driver of the Nissan Altima sustained serious injuries and was extricated from her vehicle by firefighters before being flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. The Jeep driver was transported by ambulance to Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in Kokomo for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox was not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Authorities said alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
