Logansport, IN – A 78-year-old man from Westpoint, Indiana, died Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on State Road 29 at the US 24 ramp near the Tyson Exchange, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash happened around 2:00 p.m. when a Nissan Rogue traveling westbound on the US 24 ramp allegedly crossed into the path of a southbound Ford Transit van on SR 29. The Nissan driver, identified as Kenneth Miller, reportedly failed to yield to the van driven by Agustin Diaz Santana, 39, of Romeoville, Illinois.
Miller was transported to the Parkview Logansport Hospital helipad for a medical helicopter flight to Fort Wayne but died from his injuries before the flight could take off, the sheriff’s office confirmed. Diaz Santana refused medical treatment at the scene.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and the roadway was partially closed for about 90 minutes as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
Family members have been notified. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Cass County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 574-753-7800.
