Logansport, IN – One person was seriously injured Friday afternoon after a pickup truck struck several trees along Southeast River Road in Cass County, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash occurred around 12:21 p.m. on January 16, 2026, east of County Road 325 East. Responders from the Logansport Fire Department, New Waverly Fire Department, Walton Fire Department, and Cass County EMS assisted at the scene.

According to Deputy Joe Gentile, Richard Montenegro, 33, of Logansport, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado westbound when the truck left the roadway and hit multiple trees. A passenger, Manuel Uria, 56, of Champaign, Illinois, was trapped inside and had to be extricated by firefighters.

Officials said Uria sustained serious injuries and was transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Due to weather conditions, a medical helicopter could not be used. Two other passengers inside the truck were not injured.
