Cass County, IN – Crews across Cass County were called out before dawn today after a pole barn fire erupted in the 5200 block of East County Road 650 N, drawing a large multi-agency response amid icy roadway conditions. The fire was first reported at approximately 4:45 a.m., and by around 9:30 a.m., officials said the blaze was mostly extinguished, with only a small personnel team remaining on scene.

According to the Cass County Emergency Management Agency, response teams included Twelve Mile Volunteer Fire Department, Harrison Township–Lucerne Volunteer Fire Department, Cass County Indiana Sheriff’s Office, Cass County EMS, Royal Center Volunteer Fire Department, Cass County Fire District 1, Logansport Fire Department, Denver Volunteer Fire Department, and EMA support units.

The Cass County Highway Department was also dispatched due to slick roads caused by runoff from the tanker shuttle operations.

Officials said the county’s emergency drone program played a key role, providing thermal imaging and visibility support in heavy smoke. EMA credited a grant from The Andersons, Inc. for enabling the drone program used during the operation.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities confirmed no injuries or deaths related to the incident.

Residents near the area may continue to see crews wrapping up operations through the morning.
