Elizabethton, TN – A Carter County woman previously charged in a fentanyl trafficking case has now been indicted for second-degree murder in connection with a fatal overdose, according to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Brooklyn Sue Collins, 23, of the Siam community, after a grand jury handed down indictments on Nov. 3, 2025, charging her with second-degree murder and the sale of a Schedule II drug (fentanyl). Collins remains held on a $50,000 bond at the Carter County Detention Center.

According to investigators, the case began in November 2023, when a man was found dead from a suspected overdose. Forensic analysis of the victim’s phone linked the drugs that caused his death to Collins, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that Collins had previously been arrested in April 2025 during Operation Blue Skies, a multi-agency investigation into fentanyl trafficking across the region. She was one of ten individuals indicted on conspiracy and possession charges involving large quantities of controlled substances.

Sheriff Mike Fraley commended investigators for their persistence, noting the community’s ongoing battle against fentanyl-related deaths.

“Our officers are working constantly to identify and prosecute those who sell drugs, particularly those whose sales lead to death,” Fraley said.

Officials confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges may be forthcoming.
