Caroline County, VA – A Virginia State Police sergeant rescued a 34-year-old Maryland man from a burning Tesla during a snowstorm Friday morning, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 7:00 a.m. Dec. 5, 2025, on Interstate 95 northbound near the 111-mile marker in Caroline County. Police said the 2024 Tesla Model Y went off the left side of the road and struck a tree before catching fire.
According to Virginia State Police, Sergeant S. Page was driving along I-95 when he spotted the crash and stopped to help. The Tesla’s doors were locked and would not open. Sgt. Page broke the window, cut the airbag, and—with the help of several Good Samaritans—pulled the driver to safety.
The driver, identified as Foday Kanu, 34, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed he was the only person in the vehicle.
Investigators believe winter weather conditions may have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
