Greenville, S.C. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the Carolinas this afternoon, bringing the potential for heavy downpours and isolated flash flooding from Charlotte to Greenville through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, storm chances will climb to over 70% in areas like Asheville, Rock Hill, and Concord, with the risk peaking late Thursday into the evening. Rain and storm activity is expected to linger through 8 a.m. Friday across western North Carolina, upstate South Carolina, and parts of northeast Georgia.

Communities including Spartanburg (63%), Greenville (64%), and Monroe (63%) could see intense showers that may quickly overwhelm drainage systems. Though the overall severe risk remains low, forecasters warn that localized downpours could cause street flooding and travel delays, especially in low-lying or urban areas.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and monitor weather alerts throughout the day. Residents should also secure outdoor items and prepare for potential power flickers due to lightning.

Rain chances taper by Friday morning, but lingering clouds and moisture may lead to additional spotty storms into the weekend.
