Greenville, SC – A cold air damming (CAD) pattern is bringing a damp, chilly start to the week across the western Carolinas, with widespread rain and well-below-average temperatures expected through tonight, according to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg.

Forecasters say steady rain will continue through the day, with rainfall totals ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 inches across much of Upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina, and northeast Georgia. Heavier pockets of rain are possible in the foothills and mountain regions, where localized totals may exceed 3 inches.

Temperatures will remain unseasonably cool under thick cloud cover, with highs only in the 40s and low 50s — nearly 15 degrees below normal for late October.

Rain is expected to taper off overnight into early Tuesday as the system moves east, leading to drier but still cool conditions for the middle of the week.

Drivers should be prepared for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during the morning and evening commute. The NWS also advises residents to watch for localized ponding or minor flooding in low-lying areas.
