Wilmington, NC – A slow-moving storm system continues to bring persistent rainfall across southeastern North Carolina, with totals expected to reach up to 0.5 inches by 8 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, steady precipitation will impact areas including Wilmington, Elizabethtown, Whiteville, and Southport through the next 48 hours. The rain, forecast between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, may contribute to minor localized flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

Communities such as Florence and Dillon, South Carolina, may also see accumulations approaching half an inch, while lighter amounts between 0.1 and 0.25 inches are expected closer to Myrtle Beach and Kingstree.

Residents are urged to drive with caution on wet roads and allow extra time for commutes, particularly during peak travel hours. Avoid flooded roadways and monitor local alerts for potential advisories.

Although rainfall totals are moderate, saturated ground from earlier storms may increase runoff. The National Weather Service recommends checking storm drains for blockages and ensuring sump pumps are operational in flood-prone homes.

This rain pattern is consistent with spring climatology but may linger longer than average due to the storm’s slow progression. Drier conditions are expected to return late Thursday.
