Lexington, NC – A missing person investigation in Lexington has turned into a homicide case after authorities confirmed the recovery of 33-year-old Jonathan Charles Shores’ remains in South Carolina, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives say Shores was reported missing on November 11, 2025, by family members. Investigators later learned that Shores had been fatally shot on November 9 at a home on Eastwood Drive in Lexington. The suspects, identified as Jose Guadalupe Lopez and his girlfriend, Brennan Summer Alexander, allegedly fled the state after the shooting.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lopez was later arrested in Georgia for firearm possession, while Alexander was arrested for hit-and-run in the same state. Shores’ vehicle, found in Georgia, contained bullet holes and biological evidence, prompting investigators to connect the pair to the case.

On November 20, detectives joined Fairfield County, South Carolina, authorities to search a wooded area where Shores’ remains were located. Lopez now faces charges of first-degree murder and concealing a death. Alexander faces charges of accessory after the fact. Both remain in Georgia awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

Sheriff Richie Simmons thanked multiple agencies across three states for their cooperation and extended condolences to Shores’ family. The investigation remains active.
