Greenville, SC – Much of the Carolinas and northeast Georgia will face the coldest night of the season tonight, with temperatures dropping well below freezing and wind chills pushing conditions even lower, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Greenville-Spartanburg.

According to NWS forecasters, lows will settle into the upper teens and low 20s across western North Carolina, including Asheville, Burnsville, and Marion. Portions of the Upstate — including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Gaffney — are expected to fall into the low to mid-20s. Northeast Georgia cities such as Clayton, Toccoa, and Lavonia will see similar temperatures, hovering in the mid-20s.

Wind chills tonight are expected to make conditions feel even colder. Forecast maps show apparent temperatures dropping into the teens across much of western North Carolina and upper 20s across the Upstate. Light but persistent breezes through sunrise Saturday may bring a noticeable extra bite to the early-morning cold.

Forecasters say temperatures will dip quickly after sunset and remain cold throughout Saturday morning. Anyone commuting before 9 a.m. should prepare for very cold air, potential frost, and slick spots in sheltered locations. Residents with outdoor pets, sensitive plants, and exposed pipes are urged to take protective measures ahead of tonight’s freeze.

This cold stretch marks the strongest push of winter air so far this season. NWS will continue monitoring conditions as temperatures gradually moderate later in the weekend.
