Carol Stream, IL — A Carol Stream man was arrested Monday after allegedly speeding through a school zone while under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
According to the Carol Stream Police Department, the incident occurred Monday afternoon in the 1300 block of Spring Valley Drive as officers were conducting a school zone patrol. The patrol coincided with student dismissal at a nearby elementary school. Officers said they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Gustavo Juarez-Montiel of Carol Stream, was allegedly intoxicated and driving on a suspended license related to a previous DUI offense. Police also reported a minor was inside the vehicle at the time of the stop. Juarez-Montiel was taken into custody without incident.
Following the arrest, authorities consulted with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and charged Juarez-Montiel with five offenses: aggravated DUI – license suspended, DUI – alcohol, endangering the health or life of a child, driving while license suspended, and speeding in a school zone.
“Ensuring the safety of children remains one of the primary missions of the Carol Stream Police Department,” officials said in a statement. The department emphasized its ongoing efforts to enforce traffic safety in school zones, especially at the start of the new academic year.
Community members are encouraged to report reckless driving by calling 911 or using the “Traffic & Parking Complaint” portal on the Village of Carol Stream’s website.
