Carmel, IN – A nurse practitioner in Hamilton County has been arrested following an eight-month investigation into alleged prescription fraud, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Investigators with the IMPD Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Tactical Diversion Section arrested 34-year-old Katherine Curtis after multiple pharmacies reported suspicious prescription activity. Detectives allege Curtis was overprescribing medications and issuing fraudulent prescriptions, including some written under the identities of other practitioners.

According to police, search warrants were executed Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Curtis’s home and office, where investigators recovered additional evidence. Curtis was taken into custody on preliminary charges of:

  • Possession of a Narcotic Drug
  • Dealing by a Licensed Practitioner
  • Identity Deception
  • Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement that prescription fraud “undermines the trust placed in healthcare professionals and puts our community at serious risk,” adding that the department remains committed to holding accountable those who misuse their positions of trust.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine final charges. Authorities emphasized that Curtis should be considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
