Caribou, Maine – Heavy rain will drench parts of northern Maine through Sunday morning, with up to 1.25 inches expected in the Central Highlands and North Woods, as isolated thunderstorms move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, steady rain will continue through tonight, with heaviest rainfall hitting inland areas. Downeast regions could see 0.50 to 0.75 inches of rain, while some towns near Millinocket and Greenville may top an inch. Thunderstorms may bring locally higher totals.

Rain will persist across northern areas into Sunday, with scattered showers lingering Monday near Bangor. While flooding isn’t widespread, low-lying roads and poorly drained areas may collect water, especially during intense downpours.

Drivers on Route 11, Route 2, and parts of I-95 near Lincoln should watch for reduced visibility and slick roads. Outdoor events may be impacted through the weekend, especially in Aroostook and Piscataquis counties.

Conditions shift dramatically starting Tuesday as dry, warmer air moves in. Highs are forecast to climb into the low to mid 80s by Wednesday — a sharp turnaround for early June.
