Caribou, Maine – A cold front sweeping through Maine on Tuesday is expected to bring thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall, raising concerns about localized flooding, especially in the northwest.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered showers and storms will move in Tuesday, mainly across western Maine. Thunderstorms developing along the cold front could drop heavy rain in short periods, potentially causing ponding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. The Weather Prediction Center has placed northwestern Maine in a marginal (Level 1 of 4) risk category for excessive rainfall.
Overnight temperatures Monday will remain mild under mostly clear skies, though some patchy fog may form near the coast. The rain threat will diminish Tuesday night, giving way to calmer conditions on Wednesday. However, both Thursday and Friday may bring additional rounds of afternoon showers and storms.
Residents in affected areas should avoid driving through flooded roadways and ensure drainage systems around homes are clear. If traveling, expect reduced visibility and slick conditions during storm periods.
Warnings remain in effect through late Tuesday, with additional advisories possible later this week.
