Caribou, ME – The first wintry mix of the season is expected to arrive across northern Maine tonight, bringing a combination of snow, freezing rain, and ice that could make travel hazardous overnight into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northwestern and central Maine beginning this evening. Precipitation will start as snow in the north and rain farther south, with a transition to freezing rain after midnight as warmer air moves in aloft.
The advisory area includes the Central Highlands and Aroostook County, where forecasters warn of slick roads and possible light icing late tonight. Most locations are expected to see all rain by Monday morning, as temperatures gradually rise above freezing.
Drivers are urged to use caution while traveling, particularly on untreated roads and bridges. Even a thin glaze of ice can make conditions dangerous.
