Caribou, Maine – A stretch of sunshine and mild weather will carry Maine through the first half of the week, with inland highs pushing toward 80 by Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler air and gusty winds will sweep in by Friday after a strong cold front arrives late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures today will hold near 70 in the north and low to mid-70s Downeast. Tuesday climbs into the mid-70s before the brief late-summer warmup peaks midweek. By late Thursday, a cold front could spark a few showers in northern Maine before bringing in much colder air.
Bangor, Ellsworth, and Bar Harbor may touch the upper 70s before the front, while northern towns like Fort Kent and Caribou will see 70s before dropping sharply by Friday. Morning lows will dip into the 40s most nights, with patchy river valley fog forming across the north and interior valleys.
Travelers should prepare for breezy, cooler conditions Friday into Saturday, when highs may struggle to reach the mid-60s Downeast and only the upper 50s north.
More advisories may be issued later this week as the front approaches.
