Caribou, ME – A light burst of snow could create slick roads across northern Maine early Thursday, especially during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow across far northern communities like Presque Isle, Fort Kent, and Clayton Lake may bring up to 1 to 2 inches before tapering off later this morning. Farther south toward Bangor and Ellsworth, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain or a mix, limiting accumulation.

Road conditions may vary quickly across Aroostook County, with untreated surfaces becoming slushy or briefly snow-covered. Drivers along Route 1 and I-95 north of Houlton should use caution through mid-morning as visibility and traction fluctuate.

Light rain or snow showers may linger into the afternoon before ending this evening. As temperatures drop overnight into the teens and 20s, any standing water could refreeze, leading to black ice by early Friday.

Dry weather settles in for the weekend, but colder-than-normal air will keep highs in the 30s north and 40s south on Saturday before a gradual warmup Sunday. Another system could bring a rain or snow mix by Monday.
