Caribou, Maine – Rain chances return to northern and central Maine on Monday as low pressure systems from Quebec and off the East Coast move through the region. Showers are expected to bring slick roads and the potential for isolated thunderstorms, especially in the state’s northernmost counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rainfall totals could reach 0.5 to 1 inch in northern Maine, with 0.3 to 0.5 inch possible in central parts of the state. South of I-95, amounts will be lighter, ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 inch. The heaviest rainfall is most likely across Aroostook County, where travel may be slowed by wet conditions.

Overnight, skies remain partly cloudy with low temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. A Small Craft Advisory continues through Monday, with gusty winds and waves of 4 to 5 feet creating hazardous conditions along coastal waters.

Drivers across northern Maine should allow for extra travel time Monday, while boaters are urged to remain cautious due to rough seas. Thunderstorm activity, though limited, could bring brief downpours in the northwest during the afternoon.

Showers are expected to taper by late Monday, but unsettled conditions could linger midweek as low pressure continues to shift east.
