Caribou, Maine – Dangerous heat and humidity will grip Maine today, with afternoon highs soaring into the 90s for much of the state and heat index values pushing conditions toward the heat exhaustion range. The National Weather Service warns that a few showers and thunderstorms could develop late this afternoon into the evening across northern Maine, with pockets of heavy rain possible. While storms may be locally intense, widespread soaking rainfall is not expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a strong cold front will move through late tonight, ushering in much cooler and far less humid air by Thursday. High temperatures will drop into the 70s for northern regions and low 80s in the south, ending a multi-day stretch of oppressive heat.
Drivers are advised to watch for reduced visibility in any downpours this evening, and residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Cooler weather will persist into Friday, with even lower temperatures expected early next week, providing a break from the recent heat wave.
