Caribou, Maine – A heat advisory is in effect across northern and central Maine from Monday through Tuesday, with temperatures pushing into the 90s and heat indexes nearing 100° in several locations. The National Weather Service warns of an elevated risk for heat-related illnesses, urging residents to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
According to the NWS Caribou office, the highest heat index values are expected in areas like Frenchville, Houlton, and Bangor, where combined heat and humidity could make it feel dangerously hot. Skies will remain clear, but nighttime lows Monday will only dip into the upper 60s, offering little relief.
Downeast communities, including Bar Harbor and Machias, will see slightly cooler conditions in the low 90s, but humidity will still make it feel oppressive. Fog is possible tonight along the coast and over Downeast waters. Officials recommend limiting strenuous outdoor activity and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces.
The advisory remains in effect through Tuesday night, with only a slight chance of showers by Wednesday to bring relief.
