CARIBOU, Maine – Northern Maine will see its first measurable snow of the season Friday night as a quick-moving system drops light precipitation and chilly air across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow is expected to begin by early Friday evening north of Baxter State Park, with rain farther south toward Millinocket and Bangor. Most locations in Aroostook County can expect a coating to one inch of snow, with isolated spots possibly reaching two inches near the Canadian border.
Temperatures will drop into the 20s overnight, with wind chills in the teens making for a brisk start Saturday morning. Roads may briefly become slick on higher terrain and untreated surfaces before snow melts quickly under daytime highs in the 40s and 50s. “This will be the first light accumulating snow for many northern towns, but it will not last long,” meteorologists said.
Another system is expected Sunday night, bringing mainly rain, though a brief mix of snow is possible near the Quebec border. Residents are encouraged to check updated forecasts as temperatures continue to fluctuate heading into next week.
