Caribou, Maine – Northern and eastern Maine could see a soaking rain and isolated thunderstorms Saturday as a stalled front drags a corridor of moisture across the region. Some areas may pick up close to an inch of rainfall, raising concerns for localized flooding in low-lying spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, showers will first move into the state late tonight into Friday, but the main round of rain is expected Saturday. The heaviest totals are likely from the Central Highlands into the Katahdin region, extending down into the Penobscot Valley and Downeast. Thunderstorms may develop mainly over southern zones.

Friday night will stay warm and humid, with lows in the 60s before Saturday turns sticky with highs ranging from near 70 north to close to 80 inland. Travel could be slowed by heavy downpours, especially along Routes 2 and 11 through interior Maine. Residents are advised to monitor for changing road conditions and avoid driving through ponded water.

By Sunday, the front will slide offshore, ushering in cooler and drier air. Highs will fall back into the upper 60s with partly sunny skies into early next week.
