Caribou, Maine – Northern Maine is waking up to a cool and unsettled Wednesday as spotty showers move across the region under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Afternoon highs will only climb into the upper 60s north and the mid-70s Downeast, making today one of the cooler stretches this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, skies will clear tonight, but temperatures will fall sharply. Lows will dip into the upper 30s in the colder valleys of the northwest, while coastal areas hold closer to 50 degrees. A warmer and sunnier Thursday follows, with afternoon highs returning to the mid-70s.

The next round of unsettled weather arrives late Friday as an upper low dives south from Quebec. Showers will spread into western Maine Friday afternoon, reaching the rest of the state Friday night into Saturday. A few isolated thunderstorms could develop both Friday and Saturday afternoon, making travel and outdoor plans vulnerable to interruptions.

Conditions improve by Sunday, when skies turn partly sunny and highs reach the low 70s, though a stray shower may linger across northern areas. Residents should prepare for a damp start to the weekend, but more comfortable weather is expected early next week.
