CARIBOU, Maine – A chilly, breezy stretch is holding over northern and eastern Maine this midweek, with clouds and scattered showers persisting through Thursday before a gradual warming trend returns for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, northwesterly winds are gusting up to 25 mph today, keeping highs near 50 across the north and around 60 toward Downeast. Temperatures will dip into the upper 30s tonight as light showers linger mainly in eastern sections from Houlton to Machias.

Thursday remains mostly cloudy and cool, with highs in the upper 40s across Aroostook County and low 50s farther south toward Bangor and Ellsworth. Any light rain will taper off by late evening. The combination of damp conditions and gusty winds may make it feel several degrees colder, especially for early-morning commuters along U.S. 1 and I-95.

By Friday, drier air settles in from the west, bringing improving conditions and moderating temperatures. Breezy conditions continue early in the day, but winds are expected to ease heading into the weekend. The NWS says highs will climb into the upper 50s Friday and near 60 by Sunday under mostly sunny skies.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, dress in layers, and use caution on rural roads where patchy fog or slick spots could develop overnight.
