Caribou, ME – The National Weather Service in Caribou is monitoring a developing coastal storm expected to bring snow to Downeast Maine on Tuesday through Tuesday night, with the potential for 6 inches or more in some areas depending on the storm’s track.
Meteorologists say uncertainty remains high, as the system’s exact path will determine how much snow falls and where. If the storm tracks closer to the coast, heavier accumulations are likely across Bangor, Bar Harbor, and Machias. A more southern route would shift the heaviest snow offshore, leaving northern Maine with just a few inches.
Light snow and mixed precipitation will continue tonight across northern Maine, particularly in Aroostook County, where 1 to 3 inches of snow are possible before tapering off. The storm expected Tuesday could quickly cover roads, with slick and hazardous travel conditions likely during both commutes.
Forecasters caution residents in coastal and interior Downeast regions to stay alert for possible Winter Weather Advisories or Warnings as confidence grows in the storm track.
Snowfall totals will be refined in upcoming forecasts Monday night as the system approaches from the south.
