Maine – Headlights glow through dense fog as light rain taps the pavement, leaving streets slick and visibility limited across Aroostook County. What looks like a gray, damp start is only the opening act. Winter weather is lining up fast, with snow, wind, and sharply colder air taking control into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain and patchy fog dominate early, with temperatures holding near the mid-30s. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile at times, creating slow travel on Route 1 and nearby secondary roads. As colder air filters in, rain begins mixing with snow later today.

Snow chances continue into Friday, with patchy blowing snow possible as winds increase. Temperatures slide steadily downward, falling into the teens by evening and near zero Friday night. Wind chills dip below zero, making exposed skin uncomfortable in minutes.

Saturday stays bitterly cold, with highs near 22 degrees. A few snow showers may develop during the afternoon, though accumulation appears light. To be fair, even small amounts can quickly coat roads in this cold. Drivers should plan extra time and keep winter gear handy.

Snow chances increase again Saturday night, then linger into Sunday. Highs Sunday hover near 29, but another sharp drop follows after sunset. Melted slush may refreeze quickly, raising black ice concerns before early Monday travel.

Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Jr. Day stays cold with occasional snow showers and highs in the mid-20s. Early next week trends colder still, with daytime temperatures struggling to reach the teens and nights dipping below zero. More daylight is slowly returning, but winter remains firmly in charge.
