Caribou, Maine – Snow chances increase sharply across northern and central Maine by Friday night, with up to 6 inches possible along U.S. Route 1 and Route 2 corridors as a developing coastal system tracks north into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures will run above normal through Thursday before the next system approaches from the south. Forecast models show significant uncertainty in track and timing, but confidence is growing that snow will develop Friday and continue into Friday night. Probabilities for more than 2 inches of snow climb above 50 percent across parts of Downeast and central Maine, with lower but notable chances extending north toward Presque Isle and Caribou.
Roadways including Interstate 95 near Bangor and Houlton, U.S. Route 1 from Presque Isle to Caribou and Route 11 near Millinocket could become snow-covered if heavier bands materialize. While exact totals remain uncertain, some guidance suggests localized accumulations exceeding 6 inches, especially south of the Katahdin region.
A stronger system may follow by Sunday, though forecasters caution that track and intensity remain uncertain. If the coastal low trends closer to shore, snowfall totals could increase and expand northward.
Drivers planning travel late Friday into the weekend should monitor updated forecasts and prepare for changing road conditions. Additional advisories or winter headlines may be issued as confidence increases in the storm’s path.
