Caribou, ME – Snow will continue across parts of Maine this morning, with the most difficult travel conditions focused on the Midcoast before snowfall tapers off around midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow early Wednesday is mainly impacting southwestern portions of the state. The Midcoast region is expected to see the heaviest snowfall this morning, where very difficult travel conditions are likely during the early commute. Snow will gradually diminish by late morning to midday.

High temperatures today are expected to range from the upper teens across northern Maine to near 30 degrees along the coast.

Another system is forecast to arrive Christmas morning, bringing around 2 inches of new snow across much of the area. Conditions will change quickly later Christmas Day as colder air surges in behind the system. Forecasters say gusty northwest winds will develop, leading to patchy blowing snow and falling temperatures through Christmas afternoon and into Christmas night.

Christmas Day highs will range from the low 20s in northern Maine to near 30 along the coast, but temperatures are expected to drop during the day as winds increase.

Friday is expected to be partly to mostly sunny but sharply colder. Highs are forecast to range from near 10 degrees north to the upper teens along the coast, with frigid wind chills making it feel even colder.

Looking ahead, dry and cold conditions are expected to continue into the weekend. Another round of snow is possible Monday, with a mix of snow and rain possible Downeast.

This forecast is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, holiday travelers, and coastal drivers navigating snow-covered roads and increasing winds.

Residents are urged to use caution during travel, monitor updated forecasts, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions through Christmas night.
