Caribou, Maine – A soggy weekend is ahead for much of Maine as a cold front pushes into the state late Friday night, bringing widespread rain and a few thunderstorms through Sunday. Some areas in the Western Highlands and east-central Maine could see more than an inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
The first drops are expected Saturday afternoon, with rain spreading eastward into the evening. Showers may linger across southern Maine into Sunday, where the heaviest totals are likely. Thunderstorms could also develop, adding to travel concerns.
Highs Saturday will range from 70 to 80 degrees inland, while Sunday will cool into the upper 60s. Drivers should be alert for reduced visibility and ponding on roads, especially in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible lightning with any storms.
Conditions improve early next week with mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures. Highs Monday will range from the low 60s north to near 70 along the coast, with Tuesday climbing back into the mid to upper 60s.
Another strong cold front late next week could reinforce the fall-like feel, with gusty winds likely by Friday.
