Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents should prepare for a mix of rain and snow showers this evening, with light accumulations and gusty winds expected overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

Forecasters say rain and snow showers will begin this afternoon before becoming a steady light snow overnight. The system is expected to taper off before daybreak Wednesday. Most areas will see less than one inch of accumulation, though the heaviest totals are forecast across far northern Aroostook County.

According to the NWS, slick spots may develop on untreated roadways, particularly in northern and central Maine. Gusty winds could also reduce visibility in open areas during the evening hours.

Unsettled conditions will continue through the week, with periodic rain and snow showers expected across the region. Daytime highs will stay cool, generally in the upper 30s to low 40s, with overnight lows dipping near freezing.

Motorists are advised to use caution on bridges and elevated surfaces that may become slippery as temperatures drop.
