Caribou, Maine – Temperatures across Maine are climbing into the 80s today, but a cold front arriving Friday will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds — especially in northern and central areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, warm and mostly dry conditions will persist today with highs in the 70s north and 80s Downeast. A few light showers may develop in the north by this evening as mid-level shortwaves move through. Winds will become gusty tonight as pressure gradients tighten ahead of Friday’s cold front.

By Friday morning, rain and thunderstorms are likely across much of the state, with the heaviest activity stretching from Caribou to Bangor during the afternoon and evening hours. Forecasters warn of potential downpours and gusty winds tied to stronger cells, especially in areas north of Route 2. Instability and daytime heating will drive storm development.

Travelers should expect wet roads and possible delays along I-95 and US-1. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and secure outdoor items due to wind risk. Temperatures will drop behind the front, with highs only in the low 70s north while the coast stays near 85.

More rain is possible into Friday night. Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve.
