Caribou, ME – Northern Maine is enjoying another warm and breezy day Tuesday before a strong cold front brings rain and a sharp cool-down overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

Forecasters say sunshine this morning will give way to increasing clouds this afternoon, with highs reaching around 80°F inland and upper 70s near the coast. A gusty southwesterly breeze will continue through the day.

According to the NWS, rain will develop tonight as the cold front sweeps from northwest to southeast, with totals ranging between 0.5 and 1 inch across much of Aroostook County. The heaviest rainfall is expected late tonight through early Wednesday morning before tapering off from north to south.

Behind the front, gusty northwesterly winds will usher in much cooler air. Highs on Wednesday will drop into the upper 50s north and mid-60s Downeast. Thursday will bring sunshine mixed with clouds and highs from the low 50s north to upper 50s south.

The NWS says conditions will remain dry and seasonable heading into the weekend, following the midweek chill.
