Caribou, ME – Strong winds are sweeping across northern Maine today as showers move out and colder air filters in, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Caribou.
Forecasters say gusty northwesterly winds will persist through Tuesday afternoon, with the strongest gusts—up to 45 mph—expected across open areas and higher terrain. Highs will range from the mid-40s in northern Maine to the low 50s along the coast. Skies will gradually clear overnight, with lows dipping into the low 30s under an almost full moon.
A small storm system tracking south of Maine late Wednesday could bring a coating of snow to northern portions of the state, particularly across higher elevations. Accumulation is expected to remain light, but slick spots are possible on untreated roads early Thursday morning.
Wednesday’s highs will reach the mid-40s north and near 50° Downeast, followed by cooler, clearing conditions Thursday. Winds will ease later in the week as temperatures trend slightly below normal heading into the weekend.
Motorists and outdoor workers are urged to use caution in exposed areas today due to strong gusts and falling temperatures.
