Caribou, ME – Residents across northern Maine should prepare for scattered showers this evening before a stretch of cooler and drier weather settles in for much of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, clouds will increase Monday afternoon as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Showers are expected to begin in far northern Maine late this afternoon and early evening, gradually pushing south. The system is forecast to weaken as it reaches the Houlton area tonight. Forecasters also noted the possibility of a few strong breezes as the showers move through.

Cooler conditions arrive Tuesday and are expected to persist into midweek. High temperatures will dip into the 50s across inland areas, with coastal locations potentially reaching the 60s. Wednesday is projected to be the coolest day of the week, with widespread highs stuck in the 50s.

After tonight’s showers, drier weather dominates through at least Friday, with little chance of additional rainfall. The extended stretch of dry weather may provide favorable conditions for outdoor activities but could also slow recovery for areas still in need of moisture.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor local forecasts for updated conditions, especially as temperatures trend cooler in the days ahead.
