Caribou, ME – A stretch of mild, partly cloudy weather will give way to soaking rainfall and gusty winds late this week across northern and eastern Maine, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
After a mostly dry and cool Wednesday, clouds will increase Thursday as a low-pressure system intensifies, spreading rain from south to north Thursday night. Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of rainfall by Friday evening, with highs in the 50s to near 60 across Down East Maine.
The heaviest rain is likely late Thursday night through Friday morning, tapering off Friday evening. Roads may become slick during the morning commute, though flooding is not anticipated at this time.
Behind the system, strong west winds will develop late Friday night and persist into Saturday, bringing a return to colder air with highs in the 40s north to near 50 south.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and prepare for changing conditions as the front moves through.
