Caribou, ME – A shortwave system moving across Maine will bring light snow to the Downeast region late Tuesday night, followed by a stronger low-pressure system expected to deliver 3–5 inches of snow across northern Maine Wednesday into Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
Snow will begin overnight in inland areas such as Houlton and Greenville, while locations farther south may see rain or a rain/snow mix. The heaviest snow is forecast north of Millinocket and Presque Isle, where travel could become slippery during the Wednesday morning commute.
Forecasters note that conditions will vary depending on the exact position of the rain/snow line. Snow is expected to persist through Wednesday night, tapering off by early Thursday.
Additionally, a Small Craft Advisory goes into effect over the coastal waters late tonight, with a Gale Watch expected Wednesday night. Gusty winds are also possible Thursday and Friday across northern and eastern Maine.
Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially across the northern half of the state.
