Caribou, Maine – A brief rain and snow mix could impact travel Friday night across northern Maine before a sharp warming trend pushes temperatures toward springlike levels early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a cold front will move through Friday night, bringing a mix of rain and snow across northern areas, including Aroostook County, while southern areas see mainly rain. Snow chances across the far north remain relatively low, around 20%, and any accumulation is expected to stay under one inch.
Roads along U.S. Route 1 and secondary highways could turn slick late Friday night into early Saturday, especially in areas that briefly change over to snow. Drivers are urged to watch for reduced visibility and patchy slush during overnight hours.
By Saturday and Sunday, conditions calm with highs climbing into the 40s and 50s statewide, offering a noticeable shift from recent colder conditions.
The bigger change arrives early next week, when temperatures are expected to surge into the 60s, particularly across central and southern Maine. Additional updates may follow as the timing of the warmup and any late-week systems becomes clearer.
