Caribou, Maine – Bitter cold is gripping Maine right now, with daytime highs barely climbing out of the teens in northern areas and dangerously low temperatures arriving overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, highs Friday will range from around 18 to 25 degrees across northern Maine, including Caribou, Fort Kent, and Presque Isle. Central areas such as Millinocket and Bangor will reach the upper 20s to low 30s, while Downeast locations like Bar Harbor may briefly touch the mid-30s.

The more urgent concern arrives overnight into early Saturday, when lows are expected to سقوط near zero across the north and around 10 degrees in the Bangor region. Wind chills could make it feel even colder, increasing the risk for frostbite on exposed skin.

Saturday remains cold, with highs again limited to the upper teens and 20s across much of the state. A slight chance of snow showers may develop late in the day across far northern communities.

Residents should limit time outdoors overnight, dress in layers, and ensure pets and pipes are protected from freezing temperatures.

The cold grip begins to ease by Sunday, with temperatures climbing back into the 30s and additional precipitation chances returning by early next week.
