Caribou, Maine – A surge in humidity will blanket Maine Thursday, setting the stage for thunderstorms and heavy downpours as a cold front sweeps through the state Friday. Inland highs are expected to climb into the mid-80s, with muggy air returning and prompting residents to brace for stormy conditions that could impact travel and outdoor activities by Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, Thursday will see partly to mostly sunny skies with dew points rising into the low 60s, making conditions feel more oppressive, especially in the interior. Lows tonight will be near 60, but by Thursday night, warmer, more humid air will keep overnight temperatures closer to 70.

Friday brings the main event: a cold front will trigger showers and thunderstorms moving from north to south, with the best chances for heavy downpours and gusty winds over the north midday, then shifting south in the afternoon. Localized flooding or travel slowdowns are possible, especially on major routes like I-95 and US-1. Highs will range from the mid-70s in northern Maine to the mid-80s further south.

Residents are advised to monitor alerts, avoid flooded roads, and have backup plans for outdoor events. Charge devices and stay weather-aware, as severe weather could disrupt power or travel.

The weekend promises a return to dry, seasonably warm weather, with inland highs both days near 80. Stay tuned for updated advisories as the cold front moves through Friday.
