Caribou, Maine – Showers and thunderstorms swept across northern and western Maine Monday afternoon, soaking parts of the state with heavy rain and bringing the risk of localized flooding and reduced visibility for drivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, storms will continue moving east through this evening, with the heaviest downpours likely in the North Woods and Interior Downeast regions. Skies are expected to clear overnight behind the cold front, but patchy fog could linger over the North Woods and along the Downeast coast through Tuesday morning. High temperatures will reach the mid-80s in the north and upper-80s farther south, with continued hot and humid conditions.
Drivers along I-95 and US Route 1 should remain alert for slick roads and sudden fog, especially in rural areas. Schools and businesses can expect a return to mostly sunny, muggy weather on Tuesday and Wednesday before another round of showers and thunderstorms late in the week. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities during peak heat, stay hydrated, and charge devices in case of power outages from storms.
